Updating TF Results Uploader

We will soon be updating the Track & Field Results Uploader. Some of the new features present on the XC Uploader will be applied to the TF Uploader. So, that we can make these changes and any others, all at the same time, we are looking for suggestions and input from you.

If you have an idea or additional feature that you would like to see added to the meet results upload system, let us know!

XC Upload features being applied to TF Uploader:

Athletes tab will contain the athlete matcher feature and filter options.
Teams tab will have alternating background colors for each line.
Teams tab will show the matched athletes to total athletes ratio for each team.

The Publish tab has been a common one for coaches to be confused on what to click. Any ideas or additional options that you would like to see there?

What about a link that sends an email to all registered coaches, saying that the results have been posted?

Need to score a prediction run

I need to score a prediction run. Placing is determined by the difference between an athletes time predicted and actual finish time -- plus or minus does not matter.

Suggestions on how to do it with existing software?

Finding the host of a meet

I see the meet on the list on athletic.net. I choose the desired meet to register for and add to my teams calendar. But where is the information regarding the meet's registration fees, deadlines and contacts? Where does one find the host's information?

Updated Meet Results report

We are in the process of updating the meet results reports. To preview the new report, pull up a Track & Field meet, and then click on the "Test out the new Meet Results page!" link in the blue box near the top of the page.

Key changes on this report are the tabbed interface, as well as the ability to filter schools, divisions, and rounds. You can also hide events, allowing you to only print the events you are interested in.

Round two of changes on this report will be the inclusion of photos, which we are working on now.

Let us know if you have ideas for making this page better!

New Athlete Editor

To try the editor, go to your Edit Athletes page (Track & Field only at this point), and click "Try out the new Athlete Editor" at the top of the page.

Virtual Meets -- should be fun not real

Until I read this article I never pondered the concept of a "real virtual meet". How silly would that be?

Two of the many coaches we got turned on to athletic.net I might add. The coaches actually bought medals and sent them to the kids, but it was meant to be fun, not real ...

This is a problem ... though intended originally ... sort of. You "round" or "truncate" times in some manner that makes little sense to anyone. All of these people ran 15:54 and some change ... or no change. These are not alphabetically sorted, sorted by date, and definitely not time sorted to the average eye (you sort on a different data set than you display obviously, and then is it random, first in, first out despite date of the event, etc.??)

We really do have FAT cross races in Michigan with times to 00.xx and even hand times are permitted to the tenth. This just makes the data look unreliable. While I understand there is little functional difference between any of these, why is 54.5 i front of 54 and 54.0 ...

I think the time may be now, as you increase data, to accurate reflect times as reported ... I can find many better examples say around 16:30 where there are many many mixed up times.

Printing season stats

I seem to be having trouble printing my teams season stats. The meet list at the top and the course key at the bottom are being printed, but nothing else. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this? Thanks,Chris

Day of meet checklist

I'm wondering if a coach who has used the Excel Meet Manager can put together a 'day of meet' checklist for a hosting school to assure a successful meet.

We are looking at using it next year. While I can get my head wrapped around getting all of the entries done online, I'm wondering about the day of (ie. printing bar codes/labels, downloading, tracking/recording times and exporting to excel, how many computers, finish chute setup, how many personnel to have in the chute timing/transcribing etc etc etc etc)

I realize that it may look a little different for various successful coaching/hosting instances, but a checklist/direction sheet such as this would be invaluable for newbies like me!!!

Team Scoring

First off, I love the excel coding for a Meet manager.

Everything works fine. Do you know if anyone have developed a customization that would give more detailed information about the scoring

For instance

Merge meets

I am cleaning up old results in order to better use the course reports and have found a case of a duplicate meet entry that I would like merged. I hope this is the right place to ask. The following are the 2 meets to be merged. Note that I have changed the divisions and distances so now they don't match and that might make your job harder.

picture problems

All of the pictures in my accouont are "silver" and say "not visible". When I click 2009, nothing changes. Under each folder it says zero selected for team homepage and zero tagged. I can't find where to select, or tag these folders. I posted pictures last year with no problems, but I'm stuck on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

New XC Report - Course History

We've released the beta version of a new report that details the history of a course in XC. To try it out, go to any meet, and click "View History" next to "Course" under the Meet Info tab.

Two Middle Schools

I have two middle schools that feed into my school. One has been great at using Athletic.net for a couple of years. I want to get the other one on board this season. How can I get the school added to athletic.net and then link to my school? The middle school is Valor MS in Woodburn, OR and the high school is Woodburn HS?

Register middle school athletes by division?

HI,

I realize that we are probably the only league in Oregon (Far West League) that scores our meets my division, 7th boys, 8th boys, 7th girls, and 8th girls, (6th or 5th graders could be added too) and was wondering if there was a way to register the athletes on athletic.net using a division. In Hytek we can score the meet by division. It would be great if we could export the athletes by division and import them into Hytek by division since we basically run 4 separately scored meets at each event. If there was a way to somehow combine the grade and gender and allow for a division name along with the school name. We are hoping to get our 11 coaches in our league to start using Athletic.net for their middle school meets as our high schools do.

I realize that high school scores are combined grades 9-12 and many middle schools simpley score the meet in two divisions namely boys and girls. By scoring the meet according to grade level as athletes are in various stages of puberty in middle school, they can compare how they match up to people closer to their age instead of 6th graders vs. 8th graders, etc.

We do score cross country meets by school and not by grade divisions and I don't know how long this has been going on around here. At least the 14 years I'm familiar with in middle school T and F.

We run a track program for our middle school only we only run essentially against ourselves.

We have two levels 5/6 and 7/8.

At the 5/6 level we divide kids into four teams: red, green, white and blue

At the 7/8th level we divide kids into two teams, cougars and falcons ...

How do I handle entries? Can I sub-designate to groups? How do I reflect results?

School is GR Catholic MS or whatever we call ourselves.

Meet Lists

Hey Guys,

I've been having problems accessing the yearly meet lists for the last couple days. The page comes up as blank, but as I scroll around I am able to click on invisible links to meet. I am wondering if somehow the font colors were accidentally all turned to white. Keep up the great work!

New Feature: Highlight your reports!

We have added a new feature to several reports that you'll find useful. You can now highlight results either by Athlete, or by School. Simply hover over the school name (or athlete name), and select "Highlight" or "Bold."

To remove the highlighting, hover over it again, and deselect the option, or refresh the page. Try it out, and let us know what you think!

entering the seasons meets for a whole league

Is there a way I can do a batch posting which puts meets on all the schools in our league? Usually, all schools are together at the same site for our meets. This would make sure all schools get the complete list, saving everyone some data entry time.

Improved Feature: Custom Performance Lists

We have improved our custom performance lists, making it much easier to add new ones.

Here is an example of a custom performance list: Grants Pass Area

Let us know if you would like us to create one for you. Examples of custom performance lists are conferences that overlap size classifications, lists of area schools regardless of classification, etc.

We need to know the name of the custom performance list, it's home state (they can cross state lines, but we need to set one state as the default state), and the schools in the list.

XC Hypothetical: Auto Generate from a Calendar Event

Add an "auto" hypothetical for any meet on the calendar. If I have an invite, it would simply have a link on the info page for "run this meet as a hypothetical". Gets sticky if you have multiple divisions. Would be even cooler if you could run it by actual entries in each race for that meet. So it would run it by race id based on actual entries.

Once you have data the things you can potentially do with it is really really cool. Of course this is an advanced feature so implement it for ... supporters.

XC Hypothetical: Allowing a User Selected Course Differential

Here in Michigan as other places we have played some with course differentials. Trying to compare all courses to one known course.

It would be incredible if your supporting members had the ability to load in course differentials for use on running hypothetical races.

The theory is that you can map athletes on a course, specifically as you get sufficient high quality data and thus using one known course as the base (in our case our state meet course called MIS = Michigan International Speedway) define all other courses as plus or minus so many seconds. Anyway, if we could enter a differential in +/- seconds that would be uber-cool.

XC Hypothetical: allow exclusion of races by team

We know that some courses are just wrong, or maybe they were two months ago. It would be great if in running a hypothetical, you could uncheck races something similiar to how you can uncheck races when looking at season statistics.

If you are uploading results in the cross country uploader, all teams are listed left (what is in the current upload) and right (what is in the system). You need to compare the two and make sure they match. I am doing the 2006 state meet for example which has hundreds of schools.

Two requests:

1. can we style it so that every other team line has a light gray or other background for readability? Would make it much easier. Not a problem on a ten team invite, but on a 300 team list ... would help immensely.

2. the automatch suggestions at the top disappear after a couple of reviews and scrolling up and down is not practical. So I use the more schools link which sometimes seems to stick a little and then work again a few schools later. It would be nice if you could "fold" the page by keeping the top match part visible while scolling the bottom div.

So okay why stop there ... when using the more schools link I get the dialog box (which does seem to misfire once in a while by either going straight to browse (even though it should match it appears) or in some cases by actually going to browse but not presenting the filter at the top ... so that seems a little buggy when doing big races ... not that I don't manage, I do.

So the other issue is if I type a word in the filter, it is still there when I click more schools the next time. I would prefer that it clear or, perhaps even better fill in the first word of the unmatched school perhaps, as usually that is what I type in manually.

Just some random thoughts for a Tuesday.
