HI,
I realize that we are probably the only league in Oregon (Far West League) that scores our meets my division, 7th boys, 8th boys, 7th girls, and 8th girls, (6th or 5th graders could be added too) and was wondering if there was a way to register the athletes on athletic.net using a division. In Hytek we can score the meet by division. It would be great if we could export the athletes by division and import them into Hytek by division since we basically run 4 separately scored meets at each event. If there was a way to somehow combine the grade and gender and allow for a division name along with the school name. We are hoping to get our 11 coaches in our league to start using Athletic.net for their middle school meets as our high schools do.
I realize that high school scores are combined grades 9-12 and many middle schools simpley score the meet in two divisions namely boys and girls. By scoring the meet according to grade level as athletes are in various stages of puberty in middle school, they can compare how they match up to people closer to their age instead of 6th graders vs. 8th graders, etc.
We do score cross country meets by school and not by grade divisions and I don't know how long this has been going on around here. At least the 14 years I'm familiar with in middle school T and F.
Thanks for all your work so far.

Chuck,
Indirectly, I think the site can work for what you want to do. We (David & I) were just talking about how to improve the division set up on the site.
Until then, would it work to have coaches place all their 8th grade athletes in the Varsity division, and 7th grade in JV, then have Hytek score the meet along those divisions?
You would want to setup Hytek to import By Event, and follow the other instructions on this page. Just substitute V for 8th, and JV for 7th.

In the Mt. Hood Leauge we also score by division as you do, 7th boys, 8th boys, 7th girls, 8th girls. When we do our entries in Athletic.net we list 8th graders as Varsity and 7th graders as JV. I don't know if this would help you in Hytek since I don't use it. It would be nice to select the grade level instead of the high school divisions.

In Hy-tek, you can change the division names. Go to Setup, Division/Region Names, Divisions. Rename them how you choose. Then, when you setup your events, you'll have to create an event for each division separately. We use a system we call A, B and C division, based on height, weight and age. (Go here to find out how we do it: http://www.dayton.wednet.edu/mstrack/DivisionCalculator-ByHand.htm) For example, we run the 100m Dash Boys A, 100m Dash Boys, B, and 100m Boys C, plus three more for the girls. Now, I haven't tried bumping the results up to athletic.net yet, but I'm told it's supposed to work.

If, in Hytek, the divisions are numbers 1, 2, & 3, the results will upload just fine. It doesn't matter what they're named, be it Varsity/ 'A'/whatever, if the numbers match, they'll upload. On the site, you'll just have to equate V with 8th/A, etc, until we get a better system for customizing the divisions done.
A continual problem we have with our meet is that we have schools that have an abundance of middle school athletes. Therefore, the school creates an "A" team and a "B" team or a "Blue" and a "White" team.......you get the idea. So, I do not have a resolution to differentiating the teams - why can an A and B not be created by athletic.net? Do they need to enter as V and JV?

Until now, Athletic.net has been unable to directly support this request. As discussed earlier today, you can now re-configure your divisions as "A Team" and "B Team" (Rather than the standard Varsity, JV designations) and then download your entries though the new HyTekAB format. This format creates separate teams for all B-Team registrations, rather than downloading with the standard divisions.
Summary, Meet registration: Teams register as normal, using the built in division selection system. (You, as the host configure the divisions to reflect the A and B team titles.)
After the meet, when you upload the results, results should import using the normal process, without issue. After posting the results, to post the team scores, you WILL need to un-link the "B-Team"'s from the A-Teams, prior to posting the scores. If you don't it will sum the scores together. If you have trouble posting the team scores, just make a note of it on the upload page and we can process it.
Would it be easier for another designated coach to create a B team account to differentiate???
The problem with this approach is that two different teams are then created on the site. Their rosters, staff, records and everything else are then completely separate. This then causes problems for meet registration for meets that don't allow this type of registration.
The new HyTekAB format allows you to keep all athletes and records with the same team, just register them as different 'teams' for meets that allow this.
David Bowdoin:After posting the results, to post the team scores, you WILL need to un-link the "B-Team"'s from the A-Teams, prior to posting the scores. If you don't it will sum the scores together.
This unlinking is done in hytek or athletic.net ... I'm thinking athletic.net? I am doing a, b, c, d ... but I assume no problem same process going on, correct?
Thanks Dan for pointing me over here from my "new" post.
The unlinking will take place on the Athletic.net Upload page for the Track Meet. Since the points are included in the HyTek file, the Uploader will auto-calculate the team scores. You don't want to have the B-Team result linked at the time of posting team scores. (Although in your case, all teams will need to have their own score...hmmm).
Don, I was just talking to Josh about the HyTek AB download format, and it may only work for a Team A and Team B. And not for 4 separate divisions/teams.
I will follow up with David on this (David here is the link to additional post by Don).
