We currently record shot put results as just that, shot put.  You will soon be able to specify the weight of the shot put thrown.  This will apply to all events where there are variations. (Jav, hurdles, shot put, etc.)

We need your input:  If you are aware of variations of a standard event or implement that we should include, please post the information here.  We need:

  • Event
  • Possible Variations (weight, height, etc.)

In the 110 Hurdles, all the times that were HS times were transformed to 42" hurdle times.  Rather than what should have been 39"

 Javelin - 300g 400g 600g 700g 800g

Shot Put - 4lb 6lb 8lb 4K 10lb 5K 12lb 6K 16lb (edited in 8 pound)

Hammer - 6lb 4K 5K 12lb 6K 16lb

Weight Throw - 20lb 25lb 35lb

Discus - 0.75K 1K 1.6K 1.75K 2K

My interpretation of "JV Shot" has been 10 pound for the boys.

One other possibility.... just have RaceWalk as one event with these modifiers:

1500m 1600m 3000m 5000m 10K

This would be sweet.

Correct, thanks for catching that, and thanks for the other valuable information provided.

Thad Moren:

Weight Throw - 20lb 25lb 35lb

Looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weight_throw it indicates that men throw 35lb indoor, and lists other weights. (14lb, 28lb and 56lb) Can anyone clarify what is thrown by men vs women, and hs vs college?

Does anyone have standard middle school weights and heights?  Additionally, if you could specify the extent (to the best of your ability) that the weight/height is accepted.  (IE, at my school, district, state, the entire nation, etc..)  I realize there will be a fair amount of variability with MS teams.

Thanks!

Here in the Pacific, some of us run 300m hurdles for girls and for MS, and I am sure some of our heights are not standard - nor consistent from Guam, to Okinawa to Tokyo. At least specifying the height would be great - but probably not possible to list unusual distances?

The 56lb. should be the super-weight and it is rarely thrown. The wikipedia article you reference specifies that the 35lb weight is what is thrown in track & field and that is correct. At older masters age groups it drops to the 28lb. version.

On the women's side it is normally 20lb., but drops to just 14lb. at older masters age groups.

In track the super-weight is a separate event and is usually only competed in at throwing only meets. Additionally, the super-weight isn't included in a weight pentathlon as the 5 throwing events are the shot, disc, javelin, hammer & weight.

Hope that helps a little.

David the updates to the way they are sorted is awesome, everything looks amazing as of today.  There is a small typo for Girl's hurdles on the entry screen....

Hurdle 55mH - 60mH - 75mH - 75mH - 80mH - 200mH - 400mH - 2kSteeple - 3kSteeple

I believe the first 75 should be 70

The throwing weight for HS boys is 25 pounds, referenced here: http://www.nationalscholastic.org/nikeindoor/details/

Any input on adding more racewalk distances?  Adding a main category called Racewalk with the modifiers being distances?  I know that is unlike any of the other events, but in the racewalk the main distances for USATF are 1500 and 3000.  And 5K and 10K are common.

I am slightly more inclined to add the racewalk as a type of 1500m race, rather than add the 1500m as a type of racewalk.  Thoughts?

Put Racewalk next to Wheelchair on the 1500,1600,3K,5K,10K and eliminate the 1600 RW category, would be a good way.

Great enhancements to event marks page and results entry page!

some possible tweaks:

Is there a way to "batch correct" heights without asking you to do it? I hesitate to ask you to automatically convert all 2008 results (since Guam and Tokyo might be different); and I also would like to make similar corrections for results in previous years.

400 m hurdles - no height options appear on the mark display nor on the input screen - would be nice to have same choices.

Marks list page: Why not add "all"  (to allow combined display of times in the hurdles - on the occasion that someone has entered the wrong heights)
