I'm trying to set up my cross country roster for the coming season. I thought I would see a list of athletes from the previous year and then I could just add and delete from there. Instead, I see a blank slate... Is there any way to get last years list moved over? Is there another way for me to do this.

I know I can show 'all athletes' and then mark each athlete that I choose as 'current', but I was looking for an easier way...

Thank you!

Athletes have been rolled forward to the 2009 Cross Country season for all teams across the site.

Thanks for the heads up on getting this done!

Now that is very cool!

Question, I have been adding in a fair amount of meets using the new uploader, including some with a sizeable number of athletes.  Will they get rolled forward as well automatically or will you need to run that function again.

The reason I ask is that I am going to try to use athletic.net for entries to my invite this year and if I can do that it will make it so much easier for some of the coaches with big squads.  While I know that they can add the rosters via upload so easily ... some won't realize.

Thanks for all you guys are doing.

Don, I normally only roll athletes forward once per season.  Coaches go in and remove athletes over the summer that are no longer in their program from their future season's roster.  If I did the full update again, all their work would get overwritten.

It would take a bit more work on our end, I could re-run the roll athletes forward update for teams that have blank 09 rosters, if you think that would help out teams in your area.  (that would be teams that now have 2008 athletes, that did not when I ran the mass update before.)

I see your point.  We don't want to undo work already done.  The easier alternative may be to simply explain the roster uploader to them.

It doesn't yet appear that a significant number of schools are on board, but I suspect that may change in the next six months, particularly if Portage comes on board.  I know he is seriously considering it.

I am having one interesting dilema at this point ... if I have a meet I want the coach to be able to enter athletes into a "division".  So I might have Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4.  I then have a JV race, but I want all athletes into the proper division.  I don't want the coach to have to enter seven of their athletes in Division 1 and the rest in JV (by division or not).

I want to show the JV race, but have all entries into the varsity division race ... am I explaining myself well enough ... this is tough to describe.

Hmm, with the current configuration, I think the two options are to either not add the JV division until after the race, so it is not listed as an option, or to post clear instructions on where you want athletes registered.

Another possible solution: we can set the entry limit on the JV races to 0.  There is no public interface to set this value at the moment.

If I don't add the JV race until later I fix my entry problem, but the race schedule is inaccurate.

If I have you set the entry limit to zero ... will they get an explanatory message if they try to enter an athlete in the JV race?

I can certainly try to give clear instructions, but history suggests somebody will miss the message :-)

We were just looking at the Meet Division entry limits today and realized that the lowest we can set it at is 1.  Ideally, we want to be able to set it to '0' as well.  We will see what we can do on that.

Regarding the explanatory message: Yes, when 0 is a limit...a message would appear.  This is the case currently when we set limits to 1,2,3, etc.

With the concern of the race schedule not being accurate, you could consider copying/typing the correct schedule into the message area?  This may be of less concern for those coaches who do 'miss the message'  :)
