I am going to download the entries into hy-tek for the Frisco Invitational on Aug. 29. I will have 4 races: Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys, JV Girls, and JV Boys in that order. What do I put for the ID # for each race when I set up race divisions? Do I use a 1 for both varsity races and a 2 for both JV races or do I use 1 for Varsity Girls, 2 for Varsity boys, 3 for JV girls, and 4 for jv boys?
Either way will work when downloading the entries to HyTek. I suggest four separate ID #'s.
If you are to assign four different ID #'s, it will be easier to upload results back to the site in just a matter of a couple minutes.
Until updates are made to the new XC Uploader, having both boys and girls Varsity as ID # 1 will delay the result uploading as you need to upload them as two separate files. Not that hard, but takes a bit more.
Perhaps on your long term to-do list you should assign unique id's to each race added. Currently it does give a one to both varsity races and both JV races are two's, etc. It would be nice if each were unique by default when created. Is this as simple as updating your new meet template?
We are going to be working on default race distances and divisions for middle school and college teams in the coming week. With this in mind, we have to look at the HS setup to see if it is the best.
Don...So you propose that Varsity M = ID 1, Varsity F = ID 2, JV M = ID3, JV F = ID4....then any additional divisions added would have unique ID's 5 & 6, 7 & 8, etc. as the default.
As mentioned in an email, the original default of Male and Female Varsity = ID 1, and M & F JV = ID 2, was set up to coincide with HyTeks default setup. Checking into this further, we have heard that it doesn't really matter for HyTek use for Cross Country.
Don, you mentioned that you had changed the ID's and were loading them in to HyTek on Friday. If you could let us know how it handles it, that would be great.
Side Note: Our own EMMxc requires the ID's to be unique as well. So this will factor in too.
Any other Coaches out there who have an opinion on this, please let us know. As we can just as easily default the ID's to be unique for Male and Female if that is the preferred method.
I do propose as you suggest.
I had no problem with ID's going into Hytek because I don't assign athletes to races in advance, I enter their bib in the results screen and that auto assigns them to where they in fact ran ... but coming back out I had to make the id's on athletic.net match those assigned by hytek. Wasn't difficult, but took a minute more.
In the most basic meet, a dual, you run all same gender athletes together and there is a male and a female race. That is why I suggest 1 and 2 for that purpose. This will then match what hytek assigns if I do my male race as race one in hytek and my female race as race two (it assigns id's based on the order you create the races). But it won't assign 1 and 3 for example.
When I create a race and then use my "script" to generate an upload file in delimited (csv) format, I manually assign the division for each race when it prompts me. I use a unique, but then have to go set up race divisions in athletic.net to match what I just did because currently there are dual id's for male and female instead of unique. It would be easier if you had a standard unique whatever it may be and I'll adapt on the manual uploads.
If you don't do the 1-2 for VM and VF (for example if you go 1-3) and I do a dual in hytek, I'll just have to manually change the VF to 2 from 3 is all ... not the end of the world, but one extra step my proposed standard avoids ... but I realize it may not work that way for all.
High School Cross Country:
Race division ID's have been changed to be unique. The default is now Varsity M=1, Varsity F=2, JV M=3, JV F=4
Will work on Middle School and Collegiate defaults tomorrow.
NOTE: Coaches, if your state currently has a separate default distance other than the 5k for high school Men or Women, let us know and we will get that changed.
For the time we are going to default Middle School meets to 3k. We know the distance varies in many states, so let us know what your state should be defaulted to.
Thanks!
In North Dakota the varsity girls distance is 4000 meters...
Pat
We have updated the North Dakota girls cross country distance default to 4000 meters.
*The change applies to all new meets added--not existing meets*
Dan Bowdoin: High School Cross Country: Race division ID's have been changed to be unique. The default is now Varsity M=1, Varsity F=2, JV M=3, JV F=4 Will work on Middle School and Collegiate defaults tomorrow.
Hah you didn't say which tomorrow :-)
I have been using the new defaults for several days now and it is working well for me. Boys are always odd and girls even, so easy to remember for me.
I did my first collegiate race tonight and noticed that both were 1's so you didn't mean that tomorrow eh? You guys are great and I appreciate how quickly things improve around here. I'm just giving you a hard time cause I like you.
To bad that the forum dates on which day I say tomorrow...
Unique XC division ID's are updated for College now, and I am working on MS right now (as in today :-)
Was working with another coach on his archives this week as you know ... and having "standard" meet divisions helped immensely as we understood each other right away on meet divisions. We were doing girls varsity ... it was 2 ... so simple. Thanks for implementing this yesterday ;-)
